Legacy Ag Credit, ACA is headquartered in Sulphur Springs and has five offices conveniently located across the northeastern region of Texas in Sulphur Springs, Canton, Gilmer, Terrell, and Longview. Part of the Farm Credit System for over 100 years as a rural agricultural lender and a private cooperative, we have made loans for farms, timberland, recreational property, agribusiness firms and rural homes.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related filed with at least 24 college credit hours in accounting and five (5) to seven (7) years or more of professional experience in accounting. Some experience in the area of internal audit is preferred.

Job Purpose and Scope

Assists management in directing the financial and accounting functions of the organization primarily through the preparation and maintenance of the accounting records and general ledger, including reconcilement of transactions to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards. Assist in organizing data to facilitate the timely production of the association’s published financial statements and reporting requirements. Fully competent senior-level professional; assignments are broad and complex in nature requiring originality, ingenuity, and leadership; has appreciable latitude for decision making; works under minimum supervision. May serve as a team leader.

Essential Functions

  • May ensure accounting transactions are in compliance with GAAP standards, association policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • May produce and distribute general ledger reports at month-end and as needed to various departments.
  • May review and approve daily cash reconciliations.
  • Review and approve the daily processing of accounts payable transactions on a rotating basis.
  • Coordinate and prepare year-end closing entries. Verify reports and make corrections after each post during year-end process. Determine that all material entries have been made and that information to start the new year is correct.
  • Manage the monthly general ledger account reconciliation process. Create and maintain an association write-off policy that establishes parameters for the write-off of irreconcilable amounts.
  • Prepare preliminary and end of month balance sheet and income statement fluctuation analyses. Analyze accuracy and reasonableness and provide explanations for accounts of interest.
  • Maintain desktop procedures for Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance.
  • Provide accounting detail and information to internal and external auditors.

Other Duties

  • May attend Audit Committee Meetings and work with the Audit Committee to develop audit scopes, objectives, and audit programs.
  • Monitor audit-related time frames and corrective actions to ensure planned correction actions have been taken and issues have been remediated.
  • Coordinates with external auditors, Association staff and the Audit Committee, as appropriate, to avoid unnecessary redundancy of controls while ensuring appropriate control system design, function, and efficiency.
  • Maintains ICFR related documents such as process narratives/flowcharts, key reports and spreadsheet documentation, and issues remediation.

Skill Requirements

General knowledge of accounting/financial systems. Specialized knowledge of accounting/finance principles. Skill in oral and written communication. Intermediate to advanced skill level in Microsoft Office applications. Ability to perform intermediate to advanced-level accounting/financial analyses under limited supervision. This position requires excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills, including ability to interact with all levels of Bank and Association management, as well as with external accounting professionals and regulators. Proficiency in a Windows environment using various Microsoft Office Suite products to prepare reports, memos, summaries, and analyses. Extensive experience in Excel is preferred.

Physical Activities

Should be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time with reasonable accommodation.

Working Relationships

Frequent interaction with association departmental staff and management. Occasional interaction with Farm Credit Bank of Texas staff. Occasional interaction with area professionals including real estate agents, commercial bankers, and others who deal with the association in the normal course of business.

Policy and Compliance

Compliance with FCBT and Association technology and security standards is required.
