Farmers’ and Ranchers’ Efforts Showcased During Restaurant Round-Up

In support of Texas’ agricultural industry, Farm Credit is proud to sponsor the Texas Department of Agriculture’s 2009 GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up, a weeklong dine-out event showcasing restaurants that serve locally grown food and wines.

During the week of Sept. 28-Oct.2, participating restaurants will offer special Texas menu items, food and wine pairings, or a Texas wine list. The menus will reflect the hard work of Texas farmers, ranchers and chefs. The event also benefits local communities, as many restaurants are donating a portion of their proceeds to local food banks.

Farm Credit employees donated $5,000 for the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) in Austin, and Farm Credit Bank of Texas matched those contributions, bringing the total raised to $10,000. A check was presented to CAFB President/CEO David Davenport during Texas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples’ news conference on Sept. 24, announcing the Restaurant Round-Up.

“For the past 93 years, Farm Credit has had an important mission — to finance farmers and ranchers, who are the backbone of the agriculture industry," said Stan Ray, vice president of marketing and corporate relations at Farm Credit Bank of Texas. “Thus, are pleased to support this GO TEXAN effort, which will help promote Texas food products while helping to feed a lot of hungry Texans.”
