HOUSTON -
Mineola High School graduate Ashley Chadwick is the recipient
of a scholarship worth $2,000 from the Future Farmers of America.
The scholarship,
donated by the Farm Credit Associations of Texas, was awarded
July 11 at the Texas FFA State Convention in Houston.
Chadwick
was a member of Mineola's FFA chapter for four years, where she
was active in various leadership development activities. She was
a member of the chapter's conducting team for four years, participating
twice at the state level. She also participated in land judging,
dairy judging and agricultural issues forums.Chadwick
served as greenhand president and was a delegate to several district,
area and state FFA conventions. In addition, she was active in
public speaking, placing second in area FFA competition.
Chadwick
ranked second in her class at Mineola High School, where she was
involved in the National Honor Society and Anchor Club.
She plans
to use the scholarship to study biochemistry at Texas A&M University
and pursue a career in medical and genetic research.
The $2,000
scholarship was one of three donated by the Farm Credit Associations
of Texas, which provide agricultural and rural mortgage financing.
