- The Tenth District Farm Credit Council recently elected Ray Young,
a farmer and agricultural consultant from Wisner, La., to represent
the district on The Farm Credit Council Board of Directors. Jon
M. "Mike" Garnett of Spearman, Texas, also was elected to represent
the Tenth District on the national Farm Credit board.
The Tenth Farm
Credit District is composed of the Austin-based Farm Credit Bank
of Texas (FCBT) and 22 local credit cooperatives in Alabama, Louisiana,
Mississippi, New Mexico and Texas. It is the largest rural financing
organization serving the five-state region.
Young is a
member of Louisiana Land Bank's board of directors and is a leader
in the agricultural community. He farms 1,250 acres of cotton with
his son Jesse, and also produces livestock and timber. He is president
of the National Alliance of Independent Crop Consultants and also
is affiliated with the Louisiana Ag Consultants, the Farm Bureau
and the Louisiana Cotton Producers Association.
Additionally,
he is a member of the Louisiana Agricultural Hall of Fame and previously
was named Man of the Year in Service to Louisiana Agriculture and
Louisiana Farmer of the Year. He was Cotton Grower Magazine's 1988
National Cotton Achievement Award winner and twice has been named
National Consultant of the Year.
His two-year
term on The Farm Credit Council board begins in January. The council
is the national trade association of the Farm Credit System and
represents the System's legislative and regulatory interests.
